On behalf of Hull Public Health, young people across Hull have helped create an online resource called ‘Diary of a Chimney Kid’, aimed at encouraging young people to learn more about smoking and the benefits of living a smoke-free life.

The website and linked social media channels offer weekly ‘Motivational Mondays’ and ‘Fact Fridays’ to dispel many of the myths about smoking whilst giving young people the opportunity to share their own stories and experiences with smoking.

Diary of a Chimney Kid offers:

• Fun lesson plans (available in PDF or PowerPoint format).

• Weekly diary entries sent in by local people in Hull.

• A bank of information that outlines the risks and ways in which smoking affects almost all aspects of a person’s life.

• A series of short ‘Smokey’ films that use humour to show how a teen is held back by smoking.

• A set of informative and interactive videos outlining key issues related to smoking from the perspectives of a Doctor, Firefighter, Ex-Smoker, Love Your Street worker, PDSA worker and fellow young people.

The resource is available at www.chimneykid.co.uk and on Instagram and YouTube by searching ‘Diary of a Chimney Kid’.
